Annual Luncheon

The American Association of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons is pleased to announce the 2019 Annual Meeting and Luncheon, to be held Friday, March 15, 2019 in Room 702 of The Venetian in Las Vegas, from noon to 2:00 PM.

We welcome Julia Manglano Toro as the keynote speaker for the 2019 Annual Meeting and Luncheon. Julia Manglano Toro is an attorney specializing in immigration law, with significant experience in representing immigrants before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services [USCIS] and the Immigration Courts, Executive Office For Immigration Review [EOIR], under the Department of Justice, as well as ICE Immigration Detention. For her efforts, Julia M. Toro has been recognized by her peers as one of the top lawyers in the area of immigration law in the Washington, DC area. As a child of immigrants herself, Toro brings a unique and expert perspective to immigration challenges impacting the patients we serve, and current and future generations of orthopaedic surgeons.

At our meeting, we will also honor the work of Dr. Jose Rodriguez of the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Rodriguez, a joint replacement surgeon and former AALOS board member, has been the recipient of numerous awards for medical education, mentorship and publication. He maintains an active research program, serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Arthroplasty, Bone and Joint Journal, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, and the HSS Journal. Dr. Rodriguez also served two tours of duty in Iraq, and is a retired US Army Reserve Major.

Finally, AALOS President Alfonso Mejia, MD, MPH, and others will provide an update on the work of AALOS, including efforts to mentor Latino students aspiring to careers in orthopaedic surgery.

We are very excited about the accomplishments of AALOS and our role in mentoring and training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and caring for Latino communities across the United States. We hope you can join us.

To be part of our success this year, please renew your dues or join AALOS online, then register for the annual luncheon.  If you have any questions, contact AALOS Executive Director Jonathan Bode, at [email protected].

Sincerely yours,
