AALOS Scholarship for Attendance at AAOS/AALOS Annual Meetings, Away Rotations & Out of Town Interviews
GOAL

The purpose of the Medical School Year 2(M2)- Medical School Year 4(M4) scholarship is to expose Hispanic students to orthopaedic surgery through attendance at both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Academy of Latino Orthopaedic Surgeons (AALOS) Annual Meetings.  This scholarship program will also support medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery during their medical school, away rotations and out of town interviews. 

M2/M3 STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP/GRANT PROGRAM

Scholarships are for Hispanic students considering a career in orthopaedic surgery. Grants are funding for students who have or are considering a career in orthopaedic surgery.

Recipients will be eligible to:

  1. Attend the AAOS/AALOS meeting year 2 & 3
  2. Receive reimbursement for lodging and/or travel expenses up to $1000 
  3. Attend a seminar after the AALOS Annual Meeting, “Matching into Orthopaedic Surgery”

   M4 STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Stipend for away rotation(s) (1-2) and/or out of town interviews at the beginning of the 4th year to include:

    • Reimbursement for lodging and/or travel expenses up to $1000.00
    • Attend the AAOS/AALOS Annual Meetings in their 4th year
    • Receive reimbursement for lodging and/or travel expenses up to $1000.00
    • Attend a seminar after the AALOS Annual Meeting, “Matching into Orthopaedic Surgery”

STIPULATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

      1. Students must complete an application for their first year of participation in the program and must reapply for the scholarship annually. 
      2. Students applying for reimbursement must be a member of AALOS.
      3. Students are required to submit written documentation of all reimbursement requests, with original, zero balance receipts attached.

PLEASE NOTE: AALOS is no longer accepting Scholarships for 2023.  We will announce the next scholarship availability mid 2024. The scholarships will be competitive and will be funded in part by an IDEA Grant from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
